"HIDDEN CANYON
DWELLERS:"
"They Who Watch"
Columbia River Gorge, Oregon
In the Columbia River Gorge,
there is a small rock
carving of a stylized face.
The local indigenous peoples
call it “She Who Watches”.
Nothing else is known about
this carving. All of the
original thoughts and
stories about her (?) are
lost to the ages.
My pair of figures are also
watching, waiting for their
time. The rock symbols are
copies of actual stone
markings from the area.
The costumes are woven of
cottons, rayons, wools, and
acrylics. The beads are
actually a form of plastic,
that resembles stone, both
on their crowns and chests.
The painted background uses
acrylic paint and molding
paste to appear to be the
granite stone face of the
river cliffs.
